Self Care From Our Mindset Coach Linda.
‘Self care is an overused term banded around the wellness world, and although we’ve extended its remit beyond bubble baths and manicures, it means something much deeper than we may realise. Self care is a balance of prioritising our physical and mental health as only a starting point. It is a necessary collection of practices that will look different for everyone and although others can suggest and guide, everyone must find their own way to best care for themselves.
Respecting and caring for our physical bodies is an obvious act of self care. This looks like making lifestyle choices that honour longevity and reduce harm in a world that promotes instant gratification. Our bodies are our home for this journey here and making it the most habitable and resilient place to live is a great aim of self care.
But this physical aspect of ourselves is intrinsically, inescapably linked to our inner experience of our mental wellbeing. Self care is the blending of the physical with the emotional. Our minds produce the reality we experience, and self care is about making the mind the most peaceful and safe place through which the physical body experiences life.
That means doing the inner work. Healing the traumas, becoming self aware of the unconscious patterns and limiting beliefs. Then we have choice about what we believe and what mental frameworks best support our ability to thrive.
The practice of loving and respecting yourself so that others mirror that back to you is self care. Setting boundaries, and being your own biggest advocate is self care. Deciding what you want from your life, not what you are told to want is self care. Discovering your authentic self and accepting that person is self care.
We are not all the same and we may not have the same purpose in this life, but as we prioritise our own self care it allows us to better connect to our world and the people around us in healthy, loving ways.’
